I inspect my pins in either natural sunlight or with a handheld detailing light (designed to mimic the sun for spotting imperfections). Grading is subjective to each pin maker, and can vary from shop to shop.
Every pin is handmade and there may be slight variations or imperfections that can occur. As such, "perfect" pins can be rare and so I have created my grading scale with this in mind. This scale does not include backs of pins, aside from wiggly/loose posts, as grading is intended for what they look like from the front. I have very high standards for pins that I personally own, and hold my own pins to these same standards. I want to make sure that you love my pins as much as I do!
Please read below prior to purchasing. ❤
A-Grade/Standard Grade: This is the highest quality of pin that I have available, and are sold at full price. Imperfections are usually only visible upon extensive investigation or examination under specific lighting or angle. A-Grade or Standard Grade pins will not have major flaws, but may have minor imperfections such as the following:
- slightly low enamel fill
- tiny dust particles or very small air bubbles in the enamel
- light scuffing or scratches
- minor discoloration on the metal or enamel filling
- minor offsets in screen-printed details
B-Grade: This is a slightly lower quality of pin with more noticeable imperfections or defects. B-Grades are subsequently priced at a slight discount, making this perfect for more casual collectors. Imperfections may include any of the criteria mentioned above for A-Grade/Standard pins, and may also have any of the following:
- slightly loose or wiggly posts
- discoloration or scuffs on the metal or enamel filling
- missing enamel or plating
- incorrect enamel fill colors
Seconds: Pins in this category typically have notable flaws that are visible to the naked eye, but are still kawaii af and great for collectors on a budget. These are also priced at a major discount (up to 50% off), and are sometimes offered for free during specials or sales.
- large dents or scratches
- missing or excessive offset in screen-printed details
- excessive bubbles or glitter
- chipped metal plating
- low enamel fill in large areas
Disclaimer: Placing an order from my shop indicates that you have read, understood, and agreed to my pin grading system. Pins purchased under their stated grading category are not eligible for refund, return, or exchange. Thank you ❤
